Women Suffering from Migraines More Likely To Have Depression

Woman suffering from chronic headache, specifically migraine disorder, are much more predisposed to suffer from depression disorder, feel weary, and have a host of other severe physical symptoms, according to a medical research published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The clinical investigation involved 1800 patients who buy citalopram at headache clinics in seven countries. Of the woman surveyed, 545 reported incidental headache (less than 15 headaches monthly) and 439 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the patient were diagnosed with migraines.

The medical investigation found woman with chronic headache were four times more likely than those with episodic headache to report symptoms of major Manic Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also five times more predisposed to report a high degree of symptoms linked to headache, pain or puzzle during intercourse.

Among women tested with severely disabling migraine, the clinical investigation found the likelihood of major Psychotic Depression increased 32-fold if the man also reported other severe symptoms.

“Painful physical symptoms could provoke or be a manifestation of major Atypical Depression in woman with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy topamax and Psychotic Depression would heighten pain perception,” said clinical trial author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This relation between migraine and major Atypical Depression suggests a frequent neurobiology.”

Tietjen says clinical investigation are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Manic Depression could be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.

“Careless of what’s causing the connection between migraine and Manic Depression, psychiatric sickness such as Depression complicates headache treatment and can rouse poorer result for headache treatment,” said Tietjen.

The clinical investigation was backinged, in part, by the American Headache Society, which considers 18 million American people are affected by headache.

The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 20,000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to meliorating patient care through enlightenment and medical research. A neurologist is a doctor with a wide knowladge of diagnosing, treating and managing diseases of the brain and nervous system such as blow, Alzheimer’s disorder, epilepsy, Parkinson sickness, and multiple sclerosis.
